Introduction
"Cultures" series (S605)

A world in turmoil
Everywhere, the urgency resonates: peoples, rooted in a thousand-year-old history, see their cultures threatened with extinction.
This is the case, for example, with the Kabyle, Kurdish, or Kanak peoples and cultures. It will be the same with the "Westerners" [1] and their "regionals", Americans, French, British, Italians, Corsicans, Scots, Sicilians. It is also the case with the Lebanese Christians, the Iranian Persians, the Jews, the Tutsis, the Armenians.
The Emergency
The urgency that the 2L series "Cultures" aims to explore concerns the threat of extinction, of disappearance, weighing on so-called "indigenous" peoples, and more precisely on "first" indigenous peoples still alive.
Everyone will be able to sense that: " to kill a culture is to kill a people " (Milan Kundera).
The Model-2L
To shed light on these existential crises, this series draws on the concepts of the "2L Model" [2] , in order to make a diagnosis and suggest possible solutions. The aim is not to give in to the feeling of helplessness caused by national or international conflicts, already declared or in the making, whose complexity sometimes seems inextricable.
Live together
How can the "cultural descendants" of the Pioneers of the United States and those of other South American cultures live together? Between the cultural descendants of the Gauls and those of other cultures of the Maghreb? Between Kabyles and Algerian Arabs? Between Caldoches and Kanaks? Between Hebrews and Arabs in the Middle East? What status of indigenous peoples still remains for the last of the Amerindian Mohicans [3] ? ...
Natives
Being indigenous is neither a "right of blood" nor a simple "right of the soil." It is, above all, a feeling of belonging to a people and their culture, still alive, first on their ancestral land.
Governance
" What governance for a society which is home to cultures whose "cultural distance" [4] from indigenous culture is great? " An existential, political, cultural, ethical, anthropological, legal question.
A question of humanity, justice, fairness, progress.
Concrete proposals
First, "name well," clarify the meaning, the need, the functioning of a "people," a "culture," a "community," a "society," a "state," a "nation," a "nation-state," among others.
Then a proposal for a disruptive model of governance to try to answer this existential question.
